I. Main activities of the Institute fall into 4 categories
- Tapioca varietal improvements,
- Multiplication and distribution of new, improved varieties to the farmers,
- Improvement of farm machinery and farm management system including harvesting, and
- Conduct of field trials on yield increases

II. First Phase 1994-2001
The Institute has multiplied and distributed the KU50 and R5 to the farmers.
Training was provided to them as well. |

III. Second Phase
1. The Institute started to distribute a new, improved variety, HB60 to the farmers from 2000 onwards,
2. It distributed MKUC 34-114-106 to the farmers in 2003,
3. A joint project was launched, where the Institute provided farm inputs including tractor ploughing, and the farmers put up their own labour in producing tapioca, and
4. Research was conducted on farm machinery and continues until now. |
